The Premier League title race is already heating up and Octupus markets are open and abuzz.
Arsenal are the defending champions, Manchester City have Maresca succeeding Pep Guardiola’s legacy, Liverpool are looking to bounce back, and Chelsea have made their own case as contenders, while Manchester United are hoping their recent rise can finally translate into a title challenge.
So, who actually wins it?
The pundits and Octupus markets are leaning Arsenal to retain the title
The Premier League’s own panel of pundits is heavily backing Arsenal to retain the title.
Michael Owen, Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent, Clinton Morrison, Leon Osman, Don Hutchison and Glenn Murray all picked Arsenal as champions. Shay Given was the outlier, backing Manchester City.
And it’s not just pundit opinion.
Sky Sports’ supercomputer also has Arsenal finishing top, giving them a 50.6% chance of winning the title, ahead of Manchester City at 27.5%, Liverpool at 10.2%, Manchester United at 7.3% and Chelsea at 3.9%.
On paper, Arsenal have the strongest case.
They have the stability, the squad and the momentum of finally winning the league last season. But football rarely follows the script.
Although Enzo Maresca has started strongly at Manchester City with four wins from four, there are still reasons to question whether they can sustain that level over an entire season. First-season managers rarely have a completely smooth run-in, and we’ve seen Maresca’s teams start well before fading as the season progresses, both at Chelsea and Leicester.
Liverpool have plenty of quality, but they’re also adapting to a new manager and haven’t yet looked close to their best. Chelsea are trying to establish themselves as genuine title contenders, but their recent defeat to Arsenal showed there may still be a gap between them and the league’s top side.
Then there’s Manchester United. They’re coming off a strong campaign, but four points from their opening three games against Hull City, Coventry and Everton hardly screams title contender.
But what does the market think?
This is where Octupus prediction markets come in.
Instead of simply reading someone else’s prediction, you can take a position on who you think will win the Premier League.
The current Octupus market has Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea all available to predict.
The market moves as people take different positions and express their view on who will lift the trophy.
So you have the pundits, you have the data, and then you have the market.
Who are you backing?
Arsenal to go back-to-back?
City to reclaim the title?
Liverpool to surprise everyone?
Chelsea or Manchester United to make a run at it?
Don’t just argue about it.
Make your prediction on Octupus and see where the market moves.
